The Insider SA (SABC3)

For the Insider SA (SABC3), this week we explored South Africa’s natural beauty and creative talent with two features. Freediving with Jonathan Boynton-Lee in the Western Cape and flying high with Nasty C in his hometown of DBN. This promo showcases editorial storytelling, visual and brave ambition and execution, and lifestyle content that inspires and adds value. Both features were produced by me for TISA.

From Ocean Floors to Helicopter Views: Producing South Africa’s Lifestyle Stories

The Insider SA, one of South Africa’s leading lifestyle television shows, dived into Cape Town’s underwater kelp forests with TV personality Jonathan Boynton-Lee and took to the skies with hip hop artist and prolific talent, Nasty C, in a helicopter above the city of Durban. These two segments showcase the show’s editorial range, the look and feel of the end product, the visual and logistic ambition of, in this case, the travel segments. I love that it highlights South African as a destination for locals, promotes wellness and healthy living, and captures the absolute beauty of man and nature as well as the coverage we provided of SA’s celebrity culture through immersive storytelling and bold production. Always a passion and a pleasure to produce segments in this lifestyle genre.

Production – The Insider SA

As Senior Content Producer I managed the main sponsor for the show, Capitec, producing and managing the branded content on the show for over four years. This came in the form of weekly paid-for inserts.

As Senior Content Producer for The Insider SA on SABC3, I spent over four years shaping The Insider SA’s editorial and branded content – most notably managing the show’s main sponsor, Capitec’s account and producing weekly inserts for this account. As an average, The Insider SA reached close to a million viewers across South Africa weekly, with a further repeat on the weekend.

The Insider SA is known for editorial excellence, value-added viewer takeaways, quality production and entertaining, informative content. The role gave me the opportunity to create high-impact features across travel, fashion, design, décor, and celebrity culture. Beyond sponsor-driven content, I produced standalone editorial segments from concept to broadcast.

The full job spec and skillset required was expansive including strategy, planning, trend research, pre-production logistics and set-up, client management, trade exchange and budgetary management, events co-ordination, social media integration, marketing and public relations, logistics, and post broadcast stats reporting. With a lean team and high creative output, it demanded adaptability, bravery, and a sharp, evolving and vast skill set. The experience gained, relationships built, and industry insight earned were immense – shaping me into a co-ordinator, manager and producer who leads with instinct, delivers with precision, and never loses sight of the story.
